He is coming from India, he has an amazing background as Ubuntu Developer and member of the Ubuntu Loco Council.

Ubucon LatinAmerica is coming!

UbuConLA is an international event which happens every year and it is held in different parts of Latin America. This year UbuconLA will be in the beautiful city of  Cartagena / Colombia. With the following objectives:

• Sharing the experiences and skills acquired in corporate environments by specialists from Latin America in several projects and contexts.
• Showing the level reached by Ubuntu GNU / Linux and professionals working in business environments, as well as consultants, users or systems managers.
• Technically and socially integrate users and specialists from Latin America, both for acquisition of new knowledge and skills and taking advantage of the creation business opportunities in the region.
• Spreading the Ubuntu spirit throughout Latin America.
• Institutionalizing UbuConLA as «The Annual Ubuntu Event «for Latin America.

The 2014 edition will be held in Cartagena, Colombia, at the Universidad Tecnologica de Bolivar on the 14 and 16 of August 2014.

This edition of the UbuConLA will be having people from, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and Spain.

StartUbuntu es una gran campaña con la cual se pretende llegar a los usuarios de MS-Windows XP para que opten por alternativas Ubuntu, en sus diferentes «sabores» (Versiones) como se puede observar en su pagina-wiki

Pero porqué usuarios de XP?
Esto es debido al anuncio de la empresa que maneja ese sistema, que ha dado por finalizado el tiempo de vida y soporte de esa versión de su sistema operativo el 08 de Abril del 2014, como se puede leer en el siguiente articulo

Como se logrará esto?
Sin duda, este es un proyecto enorme y sin duda no será fácil de lograr sus objetivos, se requiere mucho esfuerzo, tiempo, energía, fuerza de voluntad, dedicación y compromiso. Sin embargo, es imposible no existe en el diccionario, por lo que, sin duda podemos alcanzar nuestras metas y hacer de esto una nueva misión exitosa para la Familia Ubuntu.

Con la creación del proyecto se creo a la vez un gran plan maestro, donde se pueden ver las etapas del proyecto… en la que estamos y las que nos faltan!

Quieres ayudar?

• Debes leer bien la Wiki del proyecto y familiarizarte con las metas del equipo.
• únete a la lista de miembros en la wiki
• unirnos al team en Launchpad
• Si tienes alguna idea interesante compartirla en un blueprint.

Como conseguir miembros nuevos en nuestras comunidades locales?

Hace algún tiempo escuche a un amigo decir: «El problema actual de nuestras comunidades es que actualmente tenemos pocos miembros«… y es algo que he tenido la oportunidad de ver desde el loco-council.

La razon principal que he visto, es que los miembros actuales de una comunidad nos estamos volviendo «viejos», esto implica mas responsabilidades y mas cosas que hacer, ademas la vinculación de miembros nuevos es casi nula o el aprender nuevas cosas, vincularse a proyectos y todo eso, se hace algo pesado sino se tiene el correcto acompañamiento por parte de los miembros mas antiguos.

Así que empecemos!

¿Donde podemos encontrar nuevos miembros para nuestra comunidad?

Desde mi punto de vista no hay un lugar especifico! lo unico que se necesita es armar un evento: ubuntu-hour, release-party, install-fests o cualquier cosa! siempre acompañado con pizza y unas bebidas 🙂

Pero si tu comunidad local tiene acceso a lugares como escuelas o universidades, que mejor lugar para conseguir usuarios nuevos? \o/

¿Difusión del evento?

La difusión siempre es lo mas atractivo cuando se esta tratando de invitar gente nueva, ya que usualmente la gente no responde bien a cosas nuevas pero una buena publicidad y difusión creativa puede hacer que la curiosidad motive a muchas personas a asistir.

¿Hay algún limite de edad para los miembros nuevos?

Yo diría que no, lo importante son las ganas de aprender y participar. Los miembros jovenes de nuestra comunidad serán los líderes en el futuro!

¿Y como se formarán estos nuevos miembros?

Bueno yo diría que existen buenas iniciativas como el Ubuntu-Beginners-Team aunque solo aplica para gente de habla inglesa, como decia anteriormente sería mas productivo enseñar a estos miembros nuevos con actividades como los Global-Jam

Y si tenemos la oportunidad de generar otros espacios, como hacer instalaciones o reunirnos para aprender/enseñar cosas nuevas a nuestra comunidad, pues adelante! no hay nada mejor que una sana retroalimentación de conocimiento 😀

How to Get New Members in Our Local Communities?

Some time ago I heard a friend of mine say: «The problem is that currently our communities have few members» … and it’s something I’ve had the opportunity to see from the loco-council.

The main reason I’ve seen, is that the current members of a community we are becoming «old», this means more responsibilities and more things to do (like the family, master studies and anything else), besides in some communities to link new members is almost null or learning new things, because of the new people feel alone. So if they going to participate in the community it is a little hard, but if you have the proper accompaniment from the older members the things are easier.

So let’s start!

 

Where can we find new members for our community?

From my point of view there is not a specific place! the only thing you need is to build together an event, like: ubuntu-hour, release-party, install-fests or anything! always with pizza and drinks… it might be in your own home 😀

But if your local community has access to places such as schools and universities, go on and take it! 😀 there is not a better place where to find new members!

 

Spreading of the Event?

The spread is always more attractive when trying to invite new people, because usually people do not respond well to new things, but a good publicity and creative diffusion can do that curiosity motivates many people to attend.

But remember, spreading is not only twitter or Facebook… you can use posters and put them on the walls of the universities/colleges and more another fun things.

 

Is there any age limit for new members?

I would say no, the important thing is the desire to learn and participate. The young members of our community will be leaders in the future!

 

And how these new members will be trained?

Well, I would say that there are good initiatives like Ubuntu-Beginners-Team but only if you community speak English, as I said above would be more productive to teach these new members with activities such as the Global-Jam, more technical things!.

And if we have the opportunity to create other spaces, as do installations or together to learn / teach new things to our community, go ahead! there is nothing better than a healthy knowledge feedback. 🙂
